4.7.18 / Modern Pastry / Boston

Okay, since we’re three posts in, I have to confess something.

Even though I have dedicated this blog to breakfast, my favorite and thankfully most important meal of the day, I actually struggle to wake up before 12. And by “struggle”, I mean setting seven different alarms, only to wake up at the eighth one I don’t remember ever setting but waking up to it anyways, and glaring at my phone for waking me up (despite the fact that I had most likely set up several alarms the night before just so I could, for once in my life, wake up at 10 or 11). So in short, what I’m saying is that I’m not even a morning bird.

But I digress, because it’s still breakfast, even if it’s past twelve and still your first meal of the day, right?

Well, that’s what I was telling myself when I was stuffing my face with Modern Pastry’s amazing tiramisu and florentine cookie while taking bites of my roommate’s pastry.

Needless to say, it was a beautiful breakfast at the North End, even it was, um, fashionably late.

What more can a girl ask for when she’s got a breakfast of Trader Joe’s cereal, a slice of Brioche with the thinnest smother of sweet onion jam, and some simple cup of tea?

Also, if you want to get just a tad more fancy, I highly recommend adding a slice of Brie to your meal! (if you do decide to try my suggested Brioche + Onion Jam combo)

4.15.17 / The Mill / San Francisco

Back when I was a wee freshman, I was actually studying in San Francisco. Here’s a vintage journal entry that shares my newfound experience with breakfast:

“I rushed to The Mill. Despite the semi-sketchy neighborhood, I really did enjoy this cute little cafe. The decor was gorgeously minimal and clean-cut, the coffee had that quirky touch of latte art (and was oddly enough the PERFECT temperature??), and the toast was hands-down the best part of my experience. Oh god, the toast. So. Good. Picture this: gooey sourdough deliciousness topped with a generous slather of Nutella and that careful dash of sea salt, all ringed with an addictingly chewy crust. I’m kind of hungry again lol….

Aside from that spiritual toast experience, I also got some work done! I took notes on my business stats textbook, finished astronomy homework, rewrote astronomy notes.

And throughout the day, customers in the cafe and even passerby on the streets were pretty friendly!! I got to pet a dog today too, so that was p cool.”

In hindsight, this journal entry is a bit cringey, but I decided to bring back an old breakfast review of mine to commemorate my first post; I simply feel this would do my readers justice and give them a taste of this breakfast documentation blog.
